The choice of indigenous vines to enhance not only the quality but also the identity

The varieties of grapes grown in the five lands of the "Tenute Cuffaro" concern exclusively indigenous vines: Nero d'Avola, Catarratto Bianco Lucido and Inzolia.

This choice was made to enhance not only the quality but also the identity of a territory like ours with unique features.

Nero d'Avola

Nero d'Avola

Nero d'Avola, despite the synonymous with "Calabrisi", is one of the best Sicilian red vines. The curious synonymous, that has nothing to do with Calabria, derives from "Calea" Sicilian synonym for grapes, and "Aulisi" that is coming from Avola. "Calabrisi" then derives from a distortion of "Calaulisi" or to "grape of Avola." The vine has spread to much of the island. The Nero d'Avola grapes are medium to large, conical, compact with a wing, characterized by round berries of black-bluish color.

Catarratto Bianco Lucido

Catarratto Bianco Lucido

Catarratto is an indigenous white grape variety in Sicily with two main varieties: common Catarratto Bianco and, the most valuable and least popular, Catarratto Bianco Lucido. The Catarratto Bianco Lucido clusters are cylindrical, rather elongated, with its characteristic golden yellow berries, small, compact and fragrant. Catarratto Bianco Lucido is present mainly in the provinces of Trapani and Palermo.

Inzolia

Inzolia

Inzolia is an antique white native vine found throughout Sicily. It then spread to other Italian regions like Tuscany, Lazio, Sardinia with the name of Ansonica. However it is in Sicily that the Inzolia expresses its best, thanks to the peculiar climatic characteristics and soil. Bunches of Inzolia present with a medium to large, conical, with one or two wings, and yellow-amber colored berries.
